Artist Statement

My photographic images are a combination of being prepared and being lucky. The preparation comes from seeing a photograph well before knowing if that setting exists. The photograph is edited in my mind, reviewed for the proper light, shadows, contrast or feeling. The luck comes from having a camera with me when the photograph presents itself. I’ve collected my ideas from a number of photographers and other influences over the years, ending up with a true melting pot of ideas. Motivations for most of my photographs come from finding a feeling of serenity, beauty, or finding a unique and interesting perspective of an item. While I prefer to portray my subjects in black and white, I’ve come to recognize the explosive beauty in ‘street color’ – the vibrant expressions of graffiti artists. That simply can not be portrayed in black and white.
